Upcoming Care Committee Opportunities to Help
On Sunday, October 28th following the 10:30 service we celebrated Reformation Sunday with a Ref Fest. The food was delicious and the games for young and old were fun. Pastor Pat AKA Katie von Bora, or Mrs. Martin Luther, auctioned off indulgences that raised $255 for the Thanksgiving Food Drive
Your caring and generosity for those who are still struggling in this economy was overwhelming. You enabled the Care Committee to raise a total of $903 at the Ref Fest that included tips left on the Ref Fest table and many checks and supermarket gift cards left in the narthex. And not to be forgotten the bags of food that arrived every Sunday. Thank you.
And now, we leave Thanksgiving and look forward to December 2 and the coming of Advent. Watch for the Love Tree that will appear in the narthex on December 2 to receive your Christmas greetings to the congregation and your donations. Please place your greeting on the red hearts that will be provided. The Love Tree helps the Committee continue its work in the congregation and the community. Checks can be made payable to the Care Committee and designated for the Love Tree.
In cooperation with Church World Services we will also be offering Christmas Cards that can be purchased for $5.00 each to benefit the Blanket Fund. Your purchase of a Christmas card will again provide bodily and spiritual warmth to a total stranger. Please make your checks payable to Christ Lutheran Church designated for the Blanket Fund.
It’s been a very difficult year for many families and the requests for help at the CFA have increased dramatically. Your continued donations of food delivered to the narthex on a Sunday morning are always very welcome.
We thank you for your faithful support of our fund raising events in 2012. May you have a Blessed and Merry Christmas.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
It won't be long before it's here. Thanksgivng Day, Thursday, November 25th. Families will be making plans: a dinner menu; guests to invite; maybe even plans to travel.
As it does each year, the Care Committee will sponsor the Thanksgiving Food Drive through and including November 14th. In contacting the CFA facility in Englewood, it was learned that there has been a 29% increase in requests for help over last year.
The following food items will probably appear on your holiday menu. Will you share your many blessings this Thanksgiving and provide the same food items for the families who are still struggling to make ends meet?
Canned Green Beans
Canned Sweet Potatoes
Canned Fruit in juice (not syrup)
Corn Muffin Mix
Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate Mix
Frozen Turkeys (not fresh)
Should you prefer, supermarket gift cards in $10, $15 and $20 denominations will be most thankfully received, as well as checks made payable to the CFA and dropped off at the church office, or if that is not convenient, look for Barbara Meyer or Mae Hulburt at Sunday morning services.
